The environmental agency was set up in 1996 and is sponsored by the United Kingdom government's Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) with the sole purpose to protect and improve the environment. Their responsibilities include:

  • regulating major industry and waste
  • treatment of contaminated land
  • water quality and resources
  • fisheries
  • inland river, estuary, and harbour navigations
  • conservation and ecology
  • managing the risk of flooding from main rivers, reservoirs, estuaries, and the sea.

Activity landfill, incineration, and recycling facilities are the types of waste management that are regulated by the environmental agency. Improper disposal of waste can have very damaging effects on the environment and human health, so these regulations are in place to discourage fly-tipping and further protect the environment. Failing to register as a waste carrier if you transport any kind of waste you could be fined a fine of up to £5,000!

The Stock buyer is a registered waste carrier by the environmental agency. We take pride in the fact we are an ethically green company and ensure we are contributing to the protection of the environment throughout all areas of our business. As a registered waste carrier, we have a duty of care, we are responsible for making sure the waste we carry is handled safely, legally, and packed correctly.
